cultural artifact installation

Sweet and Sour Turkey

Turks have lived and inhabited caves, carved out of the local volcanic rock for centuries today they are major tourist attractions that supprt the local economies.

Each cultural artfact is created out of a small narrative I imagined, about the places I visited, my documentation of the place and local collected materials. Each section of the installation includes a museum note card that describes the place, a video recording a poignant word related to the manufacture of the sculpture and a photo documentation.

Travel has become a global and local experiences, where cultures are redefined by the "others" experience perhpas in context but the artifacts become an out of context object - a new cultural artifact.
